UC San Diego K-12 and La Jolla Country Day are happy to offer four such courses this summer at La Jolla Country Day School. Students must enroll in two of the courses – one for the morning session (9:00 am – 12:00 noon) and one for the afternoon session (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm). Lunch, materials and field trips are included in the tuition fees. Sessions will be co-taught by UCSD, FabLab San Diego, and La Jolla Country Day instructors, who are experts in each of the fields.

Your student will also earn 6 College Prep Units and an Official Transcript upon completing two of the courses listed below:

Electronics: Create Wearable Electronics

Wearable Electronics is a course focusing on the use of electronics on textile surfaces. In addition to being a good introduction to electronics, this class is hands-on: students will create their own wearable electronics projects, using the popular Arduino microcontroller.

Do-It_Yourself Robotics: Create Your Own Vehicle

Participants will learn how to make their own remote controlled vehicle. Students will learn how to modify RC cars to control them with a microcontroller and add personalized features.

Creative Computing: Interactive Graphics

Learn about the basics of coding by exploring the Processing Development Environment. This project-based class will focus on the development of fundamental programming skills, creation of applets that feature interactivity.

Product Design: Make an Illuminated Object

In this course, students engage in a hands-on process in order to learn how to design shapes in 2D in order to translate their designs into visually stunning 3-dimensional objects.
